
I have known Ashley for over 10 years, and I've watched her grow from a college athlete to a professional fitness competitor. This young professional is the epitome of a goal achiever. Over the past 4-5 years, I have struggled with my weight, which fluctuates between 135 and 180 pounds, my heaviest prior to having my baby. Before my body underwent the process of pregnancy, I could easily lose weight through fad diets, but I still faced the challenge of toning and maintaining a steady weight. Before I got pregnant, I was able to get back down to 145 lbs with a reasonable diet and cardio. When I became pregnant in the summer of 2014, I initially managed my weight until about my 8th and 9th months when I gained the most weight due to water retention, poor diet, and a decrease in exercise (partly because of bed rest). During my pregnancy, I gained 90 lbs and weighed my heaviest at 235 lbs. I thought this weight would magically disappear after I gave birth, but I only lost about 15 pounds afterward. As a new mom, I faced many challenges, including accepting the responsibility of caring for another being, realizing that nothing would ever be the same, and coping with the changes my body went through in such a short time. Life never goes as planned; due to medical issues from my pregnancy, I had to undergo a c-section, resulting in a slow and painful recovery. As a first-time mom, I also had to adjust to my new body. Everyone says to give it a few months for my body to return to normal, but I discovered that every body is different. Along with poor health choices, my family has bad genes, and I didn't "bounce back" as expected. I found I had gained a few more pounds after having the baby because I continued to make poor health choices, partly due to depression. After facing continuous disappointment in my physical appearance, I decided to embark on my weight loss journey to reclaim my pre-baby body. I initially resorted to fad diets again, managing to drop a few pounds but not enough for my satisfaction. It was then that I realized I needed help. I reached out to Ashley, who is not just my sister but also a trusted friend. From our first consultation, she listened to my needs and goals as her client. With her experience in weight control, she provided me with a meal plan and a rigorous workout routine. What I appreciate most about Ashley is her constant motivation and presence throughout my fitness journey. I've learned so much about health and fitness through our process together, particularly her weight lifting techniques, the different muscle groups, and proper eating habits. Since starting this journey, I have lost 72 lbs, gained muscle strength, and toned my entire body. I went from a size 18 to a comfortable 10, and from an XL to M/L. As of today, I am still working with Ashley to achieve my goals, and I can confidently say we are more than halfway there. I have always been overweight for the majority of my life, and the struggle to lose weight has been a constant battle for me. Time and time again, I tried to live a healthier lifestyle, but I often found myself giving up, making excuses, or simply not caring. One day, I woke up, looked at myself in the mirror, and said, 'You're fat as f%#$; that is not cute.' Excuse my language, but I had to be honest; who was I lying to? When your stomach looks like you’re four months pregnant and you’re not even pregnant, that’s a problem. When your clothes don’t fit and you’re bursting out of the seams, that’s a problem. Now, before my words get twisted, I love myself so much, and my self-esteem has never been an issue. It was time for a change for the better, and I was ready. I contacted Ashley Roberson and desperately asked her to help me. I knew I could not begin my weight loss journey without the structure of a professional. I certainly didn’t know how to work out, meal plan, or where to start. When I reached out, Ashley made me feel comfortable while talking with her. When I started my weight loss journey, I weighed 245 lbs. In the beginning, it was so rough. I’m not going to lie; I wanted to give up numerous times. However, Ashley never once gave up on me. I continued to push through all the training she provided for me, even when I felt like working out was too hard. Fast forward a year later, I now weigh 165 lbs. Can you believe that? Having Ashley as my personal trainer was the best decision I ever made to help me achieve my goal. I am living a healthier lifestyle all because of her. Ashley taught me what to eat, how to prepare my food, strength training, and most importantly, proper form! As I celebrate my 1 year anniversary with my personal trainer Ashley, I just wanted to highlight how much I’ve changed in the past year. When I made the decision to start my fitness journey in January 2021, it had been over a year since I earned my first undergraduate degree in psychology, an accomplishment I achieved while playing five seasons of college football. Since then, I developed some poor habits, including binge-eating, drinking, and staying up late watching TV. The 2020 pandemic further impacted my health, work, and studies as a student physical therapy assistant, and my weight had ballooned to 320 pounds.
At that point, I told myself, “enough is enough,” while scrolling through Instagram in search of online personal trainer testimonials. When I first joined with Ashley, I aimed to make a long-term investment in my health and lifestyle. My initial program was the 30-Day Ab Challenge, which I started in February 2021. The first two weeks were incredibly challenging as I learned meal prep for the first time. My determination wavered while trying to balance workouts with studying for classes. I even tossed out snacks from the pantry to curb my sweet cravings. I remember being in tears after day 5 of the Ab Challenge, feeling defeated before I could finish the workout.
I wanted to quit so badly, but I recalled what my mom said: “it is a marathon, not a sprint.” That same night, I watched a YouTube video by Ashley Roberson. In her ‘Tip of the Week’ video, Ashley encouraged viewers by saying, “regardless of the results, regardless of the outcome, work towards your goals… get back in that gym, work on those weak points and come back undeniable.” That message resonated with me and inspired my commitment to my workouts, meal prep, and time management. Although I haven’t told Ashley, that video has motivated me to give my best effort in every workout, and I’ve revisited it multiple times.
When I completed the Ab Challenge in March 2021, I had lost 30 pounds. Naturally, I decided to continue my journey with Ashley and become part of the Rock Out Squad. As of July 2023, I now weigh 200 pounds. I feel more confident and appreciative of who I am, both inside and out. I wake up with a sense of purpose to go to the gym, and I can proudly wear 30-inch jeans and large-size T-shirts. My weight loss journey has even inspired my friends, family, and fellow gym-goers.
I would like to extend my gratitude to Ashley Roberson. Although I’ve never met her in person (I live in Nashville, Tennessee), she has proven to be the best choice as my personal trainer. She is understanding and easy to talk to, yet also tough when necessary. Most importantly, Ashley is the type of trainer who cheers you on, no matter who you are or what your personal goals are, whether it’s for a sports competition, wedding day, or lifestyle change. On January 1st, 2025, I made a promise to myself to step into this new year as a new person. At 27, now 28, something just clicked for me, inspiring a desire to treat myself better. I had numerous goals and aspirations for my life at that time, but when I looked in the mirror, I often felt defeated by my weight. My journey with Ash began with a rather unexpected turn of events. I had my regular routine check-up with the doctor, and during that visit, I started going to the gym once a month. However, my workouts were minimal, and I barely engaged in any physical activity.
Suddenly, I received a call from my doctor. It wasn’t the usual nurse, but my actual doctor on the phone. My heart sank as I realized something was wrong. He informed me that if I didn’t make significant changes to my diet, our next conversation would revolve around discussing diabetes medication and high blood pressure medication.
At the age of 28, I couldn’t believe that I was borderline in both categories. I took a hard look at myself and my body, realizing that change needed to happen. I understood that I would require substantial assistance in both working out and adopting a healthy diet.
In the past, I had attempted to work out, but I always gained the weight back or resorted to fasting, which had the opposite effect and made me eat even more. I stumbled upon a workout video that Ash had created for one of her clients, and I told myself I would be able to do that!
On January 14th, I had my first session with Ash, and it was an incredible experience. Her attention to detail with her clients is unmatched. I work out with my partner and Ash, and we discuss the unique needs of our bodies and what we need to achieve our goals.
Ash doesn’t just push our bodies to achieve the results we desire; she also pushes our mindsets. She inspires us to embrace a healthy lifestyle and makes it a fun and safe journey. Every workout with Ash ensures that I am in proper form, comfortable, and confident in the gym. I also have the best laughs during our sessions.
